How to select uniquely special baby boy names with meanings

Good baby names are the foundation for a lifetime of love and memories. I am always interested in learning about the meaning of names, as it can be a good way to discover hidden meanings or origins. When your friends and family asks your baby’s name, the response after you reveal the name is hopefully “great choice”.

In recent years, people have chosen names that are not based as much on tradition or are easy to pronounce. In the past, a name would be like John, and would be an all-American name. Now, people choose names that may not even be in the English language. You will find some unique names of Celtic origin. You just need to ask yourself if the name is a perfect baby name or simply if it matches your child.

Some names have meanings in various cultures, like “Mark” which means “warrior”. Some names are supposed to be lucky or give power to the child. Some names are chosen to represent their parents, like “Jackson” which means “God has been gracious; has shown favor”.

But how do you select a baby boy’s name with a meaning that minimizes prejudice? I’ll share my method to give some direction. I’ve also created a name with meanings spreadsheet to help provide a good reference resource.

Your child deserves a chance in the real world and a good name is a start. It might be a perfect name, but a good name will suffice.

STEPS ON HOW TO SELECT A UNIQUE BABY BOY NAME WITH MEANING

STEP 1: Identify the preferred starting letter of the first name.

First and Last name Initials grouping is a factor to consider if there are family heirlooms that are supposed to be handed down to the firstborn.

STEP 2: Avoid funny name initials combinations.

Does the first letter of the first name combined with the first initial of the middle name with the first letter of the last name spell something funny?

I don’t know about you but I don’t want my initials to spell out S.A.D. Did you know that based on a study by Ghent University that resources found that people with similar initials as the prospective company are more likely inclined to work for that company.

STEP 3: Type in the letter in the search field to filter the names and meanings that start with your selected first name letter.

STEP 4: With the available names displayed, utilize the print function I’ve added to the resource.

STEP 5: Steer clear from names with negative meanings

Reference the Impressions’ column to cross-check whether your selected name is classified as Bad, Devious or Nonintellectual.

Bonus Tip: Finally select a group of your top 5 names and once your baby boy is born, select one of the 5 after he looks into your eyes.

Another Bonus Tip: Use the popular baby name lists as inspiration and tweak the names in hopes to locate a strong name.

THREE QUESTIONS TO ASK AS A PARENT IN SEARCH FOR A SUITABLE BABY BOY NAME WITH MEANING

1. Does a person’s name play a role whether they are hired for a job? The short answer is, unfortunately, yes. As parents, we need to accept these realizations and think of our baby boy’s future.

Would you rather him go through the trouble of changing his name as an adult? I sure wouldn’t want to add that additional burden. Just think about it and educate yourself on the pros and cons. Give your baby boy a name with meaning with minimal negative impressions.

2. Can the name you give your child dictate how people perceive him?

It’s sad to say, but the perception of a name is very important on people’s initial impressions. Did you know based on a study conducted by University of Florida economics professor David Figlio found that boys with names commonly given to girls are more likely to misbehave and disrupt their peers in middle school?

Can you believe giving your baby boy a short name could increase his chances of becoming a CEO? Strange right, well that is what a LinkedIn 2011 analysis finds.

Social scientists believe that names influence Dorian Gray, affect personality, how we see us, and even physical appearance. In Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, the main speaker doesn’t age as his picture evokes the impact of a lifetime of surplus, becoming a prey canvas. In psychology, the “Dorian Gray effect” named after the character refers to the ways in which internal factors, such as personality or self-perception, influence him.

Our physical characteristics then affect how others see us, which in turn affects how we feel and see ourselves, and so on. Psychologists believe that we are shaped by relationships between people inside and outside, in both directions. Recently, researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem decided to test the impact of Dorian Gray’s stereotypes and labels on appearance. Specifically, they wanted to know if the name given to a person at birth — the first sign that a person is not related to appearance — later in physicality.

In the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology in February, they wrote that our given name is our very first social tagging.

A name has associated traits, behaviors, and a look, and as such, it has a meaning and a shared schema within a society.

3. Is the name interesting enough to be a great conversation starter?

Names are a fascinating and interesting topic. The meanings of names vary from culture to culture, and from person to person. When you choose the name for your child, you are not only influencing their identity, but also impacting their future.

What is your name and what does it mean? Have you ever wondered what your name meant? One of the common questions new friends, classmates, or colleagues ask is “What’s your name?” How would you answer?

Today I want to talk about a different question, one that might be a little more difficult to answer. That question is “What does your name mean?” While this question may be difficult, it doesn’t have to be.

Names, sometimes, have a deeper meaning behind them. There are cultures that have names with deep meanings to them, like the number of sons born to someone. In Brazil, if a baby is the eighth child, it will be named João, which means “God is Gracious”.

Imagine giving your baby boy the name João, now that is a conversation starter.

Many people claim that the act of selecting a unique name for your baby is the hardest task you will ever undertake before your child is born. However, as I have outlined in this blog post, there are many ways to make the process easier. By following the measures I provide in this blog post, you can be on your way to searching for unique baby boy names with meaning that not only provide a starting identity but hopefully allow for success in the future.
